The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that Sean Couturier will not require back surgery and is considered week-to-week, contrary to a report from CrossingBroad's Anthony SanFilippo.

This is fantastic news for the Philadelphia Flyers, who will need to be at their very best to avoid another season at the bottom of the NHL leaderboards. Couturier, 29, is entering his 12th season for the Flyers -- the longest tenured Flyer -- and has struggled to stay healthy lately. In 2021-22, Couturier played just 29 games.

Hopefully, the Flyers' pivot is truly ready for a return and not being rushed into action by the hockey club. Back issues -- not unlike head issues -- are everlasting and can offer serious limitations if mishandled.

The Flyers' season kicks off Thursday, October 13 when they host the New Jersey Devils at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The news that Couturier does not require surgery is highly encouraging, although GM Chuck Fletcher did not specify a timeline. Therefore, consider Couturier questionable -- at best -- for the team's home opener.
