Avs sign polarizing forward to PTO

Hours after signing Nathan MacKinnon to an eight-year extension, the Colorado Avalanche announced that they have signed forward Alex Galchenyuk to a professional tryout offer (PTO).

If there is any team who may be able to get Galchenyuk's career back on track, it is the Avs, who have done similar with players such as Andrei Burakovsky and Valeri Nichushkin in recent years. The 28-year-old, who was taken third overall back in the 2012 draft, has played for five teams over the past five seasons, failing to produce much with any,

Early into Galchenyuk's career, it looked like he had star potential. He scored a career high 30 goals and 56 points during the 2015-16 season, and followed that up with two more decent years before falling off. This PTO could very well be the last chance he has to prove he belongs in the NHL.
