After a career year with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, it was a little strange to still see forward Evan Rodrigues unsigned with NHL training camps beginning early next week. But now Rodrigues has found a new home.

The Colorado Avalanche announced on Monday that they've agreed to terms with Rodrigues on a one-year contract worth $2 million.

Rodrigues, 29, made his NHL debut back during the 2015-16 season with the Buffalo Sabres and would go on to appear in 202 games for them until he was dealt to the Penguins in February 2020. In August 2020, he was traded to Toronto in the Kasperi Kapanen deal, but never signed and became a free agent in October of that year, opting to return to the Penguins.

In 82 games last season, the Toronto native set career-highs in goals, assists and points. He put up 43 points (nineteen goals, 24 assists), fourteen penalty minutes and was a minus-three in his final season with the Pens. In the playoffs, Rodrigues added five points in seven games.
