Carey Price Gets Emotional Over Instagram Following Another Piece of Bad News
Kent Hughes said yesterday that Carey Price will be heading to long-term injured reserve, indicating that Price's injury has once again sidelined the veteran goaltender. This is nothing new, as this has been the same dance we have watched for years, but it hurts the same every time. Price has been among the NHL's best goalies over his career and is a treat to watch every night, so witnessing the final chapter of his career unfolding in this way is disappointing for fans, but it is nothing compared to the toll it has likely taken on Carey and his family.
An ultimate competitor, Price has been vocal about his troubles the past couple seasons, even checking himself into treatment for substance abuse in November of 2021:
No question this has been a difficult period for Carey, and he always handles himself with grace and humility, endearing him to the hearts of hockey fans everywhere. Everyone -- even pro hockey players -- succumb to the terrors of life, and it is critical to remember that staying above the current is sometimes extremely challenging and that we are all part of the same team.
The recent discouraging news about Price's career has surely made no improvements in unburdening the Habs' prized goaltender of the weight he feels. Earlier this morning, Price posted another message to fans, expressing gratitude for their lasting support and throwing out one last 'Go Habs Go!'
A betting man would suggest Price's career is finished, and he has played his last game. But there is simply no denying that Price is a fierce competitor, and I do not believe he would relinquish his career without a fight. I can seem him making one last push in the NHL, but his injuries sound like they could overtake him. Who is to say, really? As a fan, hockey is a better sport with Carey Price in it, so I not alone in hoping he makes a comeback and a successful one.
