The 2021-22 NHL season had plenty of surprising twists and turns along the way. The Colorado Avalanche ended the Tampa Bay Lightning's chance at a three-peat, and the Maple Leafs and Wild continued their struggles in the playoffs. Here is a look at some of the worst decisions made over the course of last season.

The first decision that had many people wondering was the Chicago Blackhawks delaying their rebuild. It didn't work and they paid for it mightily during the season. Now, they have started what might be the weirdest start to a rebuild in NHL history, trading away Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach.

Another questionable decision was the Jack Eichel trade to the Vegas Golden Knights. At the time, Vegas was fighting for a playoff position, but even with acquiring Eichel, they further diminished their future. Eichel wasn't bad with the Knights, but he also was not as great as he was in Buffalo. Vegas gave away Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch and a first-round pick for a player coming off an artificial disk replacement.

One decision that struck me as surprising is whatever is happening in San Jose. The Sharks would not commit to a rebuild, and instead stated they were just in the midst of a "reset." The team was stuck in mediocrity yet again, and instead of trading away any of their aging core. The team did trade former superstar defenseman Brent Burns this offseason, so the rebuild seems closer than it ever has in San Jose.
