Before signing a four-year, $18 million contract with the Dallas Stars, Mason Marchment suddenly lost his father, former NHL player & current San Jose Sharks scout Bryan Marchment. After a roller coaster of a summer, Mason has a fresh start & a handsome pay raise to boot in Dallas.

He will also have a new number, the same one his father wore for most of his NHL career:

Very cool for him to don his father's number in the NHL, a classic reminder that there is more to hockey than just the game.

Marchment is poised for a big year in the Big D. He scored 53 points in 54 games on a loaded Florida Panthers' offense last season, but he sported absolutely stellar underlyings:

Mason Marchment is near the top of my Players-to-Watch for 2022-23, and now I have even more anticipation to watch, as he dashes around in the number of his late father. You want me to say that won't get me fired up? Because it's going to fire me up, I won't lie to you.
