Former Maple Leafs first round pick leaves North America

After spending parts of seven seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Arizona Coyotes, New Jersey Devils and their respective AHL clubs, former first round pick Frederik Gauthier is leaving North America.

The Laval (Quebec) native has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with HC Ajoie, who play in Switzerland's top division, National League.

"The Quebec center will land in Porrentruy! The Canadian from Laval, QC is making the trip across the Atlantic after 7 seasons in the NHL. He signed a new agreement with the Hockey Club Ajoie. A one-year agreement that will allow him to wear the Yellow & Black jersey until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

Frédérik Gauthier is a left-handed attacker, capable of playing in all game situations and he has a complete profile and a physical game. The Hockey Club Ajoie welcomes him to the Yellow & Black family." HC Ajoie said in a statement.

Gauthier, 27, played in 178 career games in the National Hockey League after being selected 21st overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013. In those 178 games, he tallied 31 points (thirteen goals, eighteen assists), 47 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.
