Seriously, imagine the dumbest thing you've ever said & multiply it times infinity. Now double that. That's roughly how terrible this take was.
I mean, I don't even need to explain myself. But you know what? I've got time today, so let's unpack this--the single-most asinine thing I've ever read on the internet.
'Brodeur's not even a top-5 all time goalie, tbh.' Uh well, Andrew, that is a dumb statement, pal. Here's why:
Martin Brodeur has the most Wins for a goalie (691, a mere 140 more than the next guy). Of all goalies in the top-20 in Wins, Brodeur has the best Goals-Against Average (2.24) & the 7th best in Save-Percentage (.912). Brodeur is the all-time leader for Shutouts with 125; he and Terry Sawchuk (103) are the only two goaltenders in triple digits for that statistic.
Brodeur's three Stanley Cups are tied for the most since 1995 (Marc-Andre Fleury). Sure, Patrick Roy won four. But while we're talking about it, Roy was on an absolute wagon for both of Montreal's cups, and the Colorado Avalanche were no slouches either. Only worth mentioning because one of the most common cases against Martin Brodeur is the team that played in front of him. In any case, Martin Brodeur is probably the greatest goaltender who ever lived, so Andrew Berkshire could not be more off-base with this outlandish comment.
The New Jersey Devils caught wind of his blasphemy & set him straight:
Absolutely cooked that turkey, and rightfully so. People should be ridiculed when they say such stupid things. Just my opinion. *This is not an endorsement of cyber-bullying.*
Some fans find it unprofessional or distasteful for NHL clubs' official twitter accounts to perpetuate a toxic environment. But something tells me Devils fans don't mind it...
For the record, the top-five greatest goaltenders of all-time are:
1. Martin Brodeur
2. Dominik Hasek
3. Terry Sawchuk
4. Patrick Roy
5. Marc-Andre Fleury
