It appears to be the end of the line for Loui Eriksson when it comes to playing in the NHL. The unrestricted free agent still wants to play next season, but according to Arizona Coyotes insider Craig Morgan, Eriksson is unlikely to get a contract in the NHL and will head to Europe for 2022-23.

"Former Coyotes forward Loui Eriksson, who just turned 37 one week ago, wants to keep playing in 2022-23.

It will most likely be in Sweden, but he is also looking at opportunities in the Swiss league." - Craig Morgan, Twitter

Eriksson just finished up a six-year contract originally signed with the Vancouver Canucks that carried a cap hit of $6 million annually. He had some good years in the NHL, but the last deal he signed would burn the Canucks badly as his production plummeted in 2016, the year that contract was signed. Eriksson went from someone who had five 60+ points seasons and three above 70, to a forward who couldn't make it to 30 points while playing 80 games. He also dealt with multiple long-term injuries over the years.

In July of 2021, Eriksson was sent to the Arizona Coyotes as part of a package that saw Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland going to Vancouver. He got in 73 games with the Yotes last season, but managed just three goals and 19 points. Look for a signing to come soon either in Sweden's SHL or the National League in Switzerland.
