Montreal has had quite the rambunctious offseason. They hosted the NHL Entry Draft, shocked the hockey world taking Juraj Slafkovsky #1 over Shane Wright, they have made a handful of big-time trades, and GM Kent Hughes has the Habs sitting pretty despite the team's poor 2021-22 season. And on top of all that, Paul Byron decided to spice up the summer a little bit, when a plane crashed nearby during his summer fishing trip.

Byron was on holiday in Lac des Sables in Notre-Dame-du-Laus when a seaplane crashed in close proximity. Byron, his brother-in-law, and a local jet-skier all rushed to assist the fallen pilot upon impact. After evacuation from the crashed aircraft, Byron & the others rushed the pilot ashore where they waited for first responders to arrive. The lone passenger on board, the pilot suffered multiple injuries but was alert, conscious, and breathing after the fact.

Byron declined to comment out of respect for the pilot, but the incident is being investigated by local authorities & the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

The past year or so has been an eventful one for Paul Byron. Placed on waivers last season, he was instrumental in Montreal's run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. Then the team fell off a cliff after Carey Price & Shea Weber both shut it down before the 2021-22 season. While Byron's on-ice product leaves a bit to be desired, his pilots rescued per sixty-minutes is impressive. Not to mention his instincts for safety. That shows leadership.
