The San Jose Sharks announced on Friday that they have signed forward Steven Lorentz to a two-year deal with an average annual value of $1.05 million.

Lorentz, 26, suited up for a career high 67 games last season with the Carolina Hurricanes. In those 67 outings he managed to score eight goals and 13 points. He additionally appeared in five postseason contests but was held pointless. He made his debut during the 2020-21 season and went on to play in 45 games, registering eight total points.

While he will never by any means be a gamebreaker at the NHL level, Lorentz does have more offensive potential than he has shown to this point in his career. He proved that during the 2019-20 season when he scored 23 goals and 46 points in 61 outings with the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League. If he is able to develop that scoring touch in the NHL, this could be a very good pickup for the Sharks.
