The San Jose Sharks have agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth $5.5 million ($2.75 million AAV) with restricted free agent goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen.

"Kaapo has shown potential to be a number one goaltender in the NHL, and impressed us when he joined our team in the last part of the season," said Sharks General Manager Mike Grier. "We are excited to have him with us."

Kahkonen, 25, was acquired by the San Jose Sharks, along with a fifth round pick in 2022, from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Jacob Middleton. With the Wild adding Marc-Andre Fleury before the trade deadline, they had to move on from either Cam Talbot or Kaapo Kahkonen, and they opted to trade the latter of the two.

In 36 games last season between the Wild and Sharks, the Helsinki (Finland) native had a record of 14-14-4 with a 2.86 GAA and a .913 save percentage.
