The Montreal Canadiens announced on Monday that they've agreed to terms on a two-year, one-way contract worth $2 million ($1 million AAV) with restricted free agent goaltender Samuel Montembeault.

Montembeault, 25, was claimed off waiver by the Canadiens from the Florida Panthers in October 2021, just before the start of the 21-22 season. With Carey Price dealing with his knee recovery, Montembeault played the majority of Montreal's games during the season.

In 38 games, the Becancour (Quebec) native posted a record of 8-18-6 with a 3.77 GAA, an .891 save percentage and one shutout.

With the status of Carey Price unclear for next season, there's a very good chance the Canadiens start the campaign with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault once again.
