2018 eighteenth overall draft pick Liam Foudy today signed a contract extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets, per a team release. Foudy has only played 27 games for the Blue Jackets, managing five assists. He does have 35 points in 41 AHL games with Columbus' affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. If you value speculative analytics, you could consider JFresh Hockey's Prospect Model, using TopDownHockey's data, which projects the likelihood that a player becomes an NHLer (200 GP) or a Star (top 85% in Wins Above Replacement):

By this model, Foudy's star probability is fairly low, but he has a solid chance to turn into an NHL player. Now I've watched Foudy a handful of times, and the kid can fly. He could be a late-bloomer, and while his end product isn't the greatest, he may be able to thrive under the right conditions. And Columbus has a pretty strong young core of players thanks to GM Jarmo Kekalainen.

As discussed, Foudy's new contract with the Blue Jackets is a two-year contract. The construction of this contract is unique; in the 2022-23 season, it is a two-way deal, meaning his paycheck depends on which side of the NHL/AHL line he ends up. And in 2023-24 Foudy will be on a one-way deal, meaning he gets the 'big-boy' paycheck no matter which team he is on.
