In the second Players Tribune hockey article released this week, legendary Sharks forward Patrick Marleau announces his retirement from professional hockey.

Marleau goes through his life growing up on a farm, his time in San Jose, and even other teams that gave him a change. He talks about current Toronto Maple Leafs players Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews :

"Watching them and their love of the game made me fall in love with hockey all over again. I have no doubt that those guys will win a Cup on day, and when they do, I know they'll remember all those mini stick battles in the basement."

Marleau played 23 seasons in the NHL and is the all time games played leader with 1,779. He played 21 seasons with the San Jose Sharks and is the club's all time leader in points with 1,111 and goals with 522.

It's unclear what Marleau's next move might be. Perhaps he will retire back to his family's farm, or maybe we will see him back in hockey sooner than expected. There have been rumors about him taking on a front office role with the San Jose Sharks. We'll just have to wait and see.
