Team Canada is set to kick-off their 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship schedule next Friday against Germany. Their final roster is likely to be in place at some point this weekend or early next week.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal has accepted an invitation to represent Canada at the tournament, which will take place in Tampere and Helsinki (Finland).

"Team Canada is inching closer to its Men's World Hockey Championship roster. @NYIslanders forward, Mathew Barzal is the latest to confirm his spot on the team." Dreger said.

Barzal, 24, has represented Canada at the World Championship once before, that came in 2018. In ten games, he put up seven assists and four penalty minutes as Canada lost to the United States in the Bronze Medal Game.
