A surprise early in Monday night's game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs. Not even six minutes in, the Bolts' Pat Maroon and the Leafs' Wayne Simmonds would each get 10 minute misconducts for chirping from the bench. This is definitely not something you see very often when watching the NHL. Check it out:

According to reports, Maroon told Simmonds he's be out of the league next season, while Simmonds responded with several expletives. Following the game, Maroon commented on the incident and expressed frustration with the way the game is heading.

"This game is going the wrong way. I guess you can't chirp each other on the bench now. I guess that is illegal. I guess it is better to watch 1980s hockey when guys are chirping each other. But I don't know why they did that. The game's going the opposite way I guess," Maroon told reporters.

It really is a strange thing to have happen. Oddly enough, Simmonds was involved in another incident recently where he and Adam Lowry of the Winnipeg Jets were given misconducts without even touching each other. You can read more about that here. Toronto won this game 6-2.
