Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews tied a franchise record for most goals in a single-season with 54 on Monday night after putting up a hat-trick against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Matthews now sits level with former Maple Leafs captain Rick Vaive, who set the record forty years ago, during the 1981-82 season.

With thirteen games remaining for the Maple Leafs this season, there's no doubt that Auston Matthews can become the first player to have 60 goals in a single-season since Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos had that many ten years ago, during the 2011-12 campaign.

Toronto would go on to beat the Lightning by a score of 6-2. They'll be back in action tomorrow night when they face the Atlantic division-leading Florida Panthers, who became the first team to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sunday.
