After a record 989 consecutive games in the National Hockey League, it appears that Keith Yandle's Iron Man streak is coming to an end.

According to Adam Kimelman of NHL.com, Yandle was not in one of the three defensive pairings at practice on Friday and may be out of the line-up on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"Keith Yandle skated on what appears to be Flyers' fourth defense pair at practice today, meaning it's possible his NHL record ironman streak could end at 989 consecutive games," Kimelman said.

Yesterday, it was reported by Flyers head coach Mike Yeo that Yandle was sick and didn't participate in Thursday's practice with the team. Even though it appears Yandle was well enough to return to practice on Friday, he'll still be one of the odd men out on Saturday night.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman acknowledges a conversation between Yandle and the Flyers has taken place, with the Flyers wishing to give some younger guys a chance at the end of the season.

It's pretty remarkable that Yandle has been able to play that many games in a row without suffering an injury, being a healthy scratch, etc. Next in line to eventually pass Yandle is Arizona Coyotes forward Phil Kessel who's currently at 967 consecutive games.
