Some big news off the ice for the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. General manager Ken Holland has announced that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Xavier Bourgault that begins next season.

Bourgault, 19, was selected in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Oilers.

The L'Islet (Quebec) native is in his fourth season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, playing for the Shawinigan Cataractes. In 31 games this season, Bourgault has 51 points (26 goals, 21 assists), 16 penalty minutes, and is a +19.

Bourgault represented Canada, briefly, at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship in December before it was cancelled a few days in due to the spread of COVID-19.
