Geoff Platt, who was born and raised in Toronto, is preparing to give up his Belarusian citizenship that he was awarded for playing hockey in that country for several years. Platt, who most recently played in the KHL with Ufa Salavat Yulayev, was awarded citizenship with Belarus after playing for Dynamo Minsk for parts of five seasons. He represented Belarus at the World Hockey Championship held in that country in 2014.

While no official reason has been given, it's a safe bet that Platt is not happy with Belarus backing Russia in that country's invasion of Ukraine. Platt recently terminated his contract with Salavat and left Russia, giving up a portion of money that he was still owed.

While he was never drafted into the NHL, Platt did sign an entry-level contract with Columbus back in 2005. He played 46 games in the league with the Blue Jackets and the Anaheim Ducks before leaving for the KHL. He also had brief stints in the Finnish Elite League and the Swedish Hockey League.
