NHL DOPS announces punishment for Canes Niederreiter

Carolina Hurricanes Nino Niederreiter has been assessed his punishment for slashing Washington Capitals forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby during the 4-3 shootout loss on Friday while Jonsson-Fjallby was on the bench.

The incident occurred during the first period of the game where Niederreiter was given a minor penalty for slashing. After the NHL Department of Player Safety reviewed the play, it was determined that a one game suspension was needed for the incident.

Niederreiter will be forced to miss Sunday's game versus the New York Rangers, before rejoining the lineup for Tuesday's tilt versus the Tampa Lightning.
