A top prospect in the upcoming NHL draft is reportedly facing a major health issue and may miss all of next season. The Russian Ice Hockey Federation has announced that 18-year-old forward Ivan Miroshnichenko "has been diagnosed with serious health problems."

"At the moment, he is receiving medical treatment in Germany and might miss the entirety of next season," said the RIHF.

There is no word at the moment on specifically what is wrong with Miroshnichenko. He played 31 games with Omskie Krylia of the VHL this season, scoring 10 goals and 16 points. At the 2021 World Junior Championship, Miroshnichenko scored six goals and eight points as Russia won the silver medal. He was the captain of his team at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where Russia won gold.

Omsk Avangard, the team that owns Marischichenko's KHL rights, has agreed to cover all costs associated with his treatment.

"Avangard Hockey Club will provide the player with full support and will cover all costs associated with treatment. We wish Vanya a speedy recovery and return to the ice!" - Avangard

All of the draft ranking websites note that Miroshnichenko is an elite skater who is expected to go high in the 2022 NHL draft.

"Highly talented offensive weapon that can impact the game with his shot as well as his passing ability. Needs to become more consistent with his compete level but has the raw skill to be a star in the NHL." - Dobber Prospects

Miroshnichenko is currently signed in Russia until 2024.
