Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov took to Instagram on Thursday to thank fans for their support following the announcement of his brain tumour diagnosis.

Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas announced the news on Wednesday morning, adding that Amirov was undergoing treatment at a medical facility in Germany and won't play for the rest of 2021-22 season.

Note: The following post was translated from Russia.

"I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for the words of support. Yesterday you blew up my DM, I really didn't expect that. Yes, these are difficult times, but I am convinced that victory is near, especially with such support. I am now in Germany with my parents. I go through all the necessary medical procedures, I train on the ground, I go out on the ice three times a week - all with doctor's prescriptions in mind. My beloved dog was recently brought in, we walk together, play. Been sleeping a lot. So far this is the news. Once again - thank you to each of you from me and my parents for your participation and kind words. With God I will overcome and become a winner. Hugged, lifted, circled. My parents and I would like to thank each of you for all your support and kind words. Since yesterday I have received thousands of messages from all over the world. Times are very challenging but God will help me to overcome all the obstacles and win."

The 20-year-old was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. During this season, Amirov was playing for Ufa Salavat Yulayev in the KHL.

We would like to wish Rodion a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the ice as soon as he's cleared to do so.
