Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Wednesday that the team has promoted John Sedgwick to the role of assistant general manager.

Sedgwick was hired by the Canadiens back in 2013 to be their director of legal affairs. From there, he was promoted to vice-president of hockey operations and legal affairs in 2017.

With his role, Sedgwick dealt with the daily management and strategic planning when it came to the salary cap. He also handled player contract negotiations, salary arbitration, etc.

He also helped with the launch of the Laval Rocket, Montreal's American Hockey League affiliate, back in 2017 and then with their East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Trois-Rivières Lions last year.
