Earlier this morning, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas announced that 2020 first round pick Rodion Amirov has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and is undergoing treatment in Germany.

Amirov spoke with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman to say that he's going to stay positive throughout the process.

"I want to stay positive, and I want people to think positively about me," he said.

"There are many other people that have their own sicknesses or illnesses. I want to show by example that I can give people hope," Amirov added.

Amirov's agent Dan Milstein also released a statement on Wednesday regarding the news. Milstein said that his client is still skating three times a week and working out every day while in Germany and is determined to return to playing professional hockey.

Part of the statement read, "Rodion Amirov was 16 when we first met. In the past month, I've seen how he's even more impressive off the ice than he is on it. Supported by two first-class organizations, we will do everything we can to help Rodion and his family during this challenging time."

Our thoughts are with Rodion Amirov and his family during this difficult time.
