Not even 24 hours removed from participating in the NHL's All-Star game, Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils has been placed on COVID protocol. Hughes, 20, was pulled from the team's afternoon practice at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House inside Prudential Center early Sunday afternoon after testing positive for COVID-19.

"We know the gig now, when a trainer comes to you during practice is not a good sign," assistant coach Alain Nasreddine said after practice. "Losing your best player is never good. It's part of the game right now. We'll have to deal with, and unfortunately he won't be here next game."

The NHL is planning to drop the testing of asymptomatic players after All-Star weekend. It isn't clear whether Hughes was showing symptoms or whether that new policy hasn't come into effect yet.
