As has been well-documented, Alexander Ovechkin had to withdraw from the All-Star weekend festivities after testing positive for COVID-19 two days before they were set to begin. Fellow All-Star Connor McDavid ensured Ovechkin and his family had a nice gift from the weekend anyway.

The Washington Capitals posted a photo of a stick McDavid gifted to "Ovi Jr.", the nickname for Ovi's first son Sergei. McDavid personalized the stick with a message reading "To my friend Ovi Jr." along with his autograph.

According to McDavid, Ovechkin had asked for the stick at a game between the Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals.

"Ovi had asked me," McDavid said. "We were just in Washington before (the break) and he had asked me just to sign a stick for him. Any time Ovi asks for something, it gets done."

It has been noted several times that Alex Ovechkin is a collector of player's sticks and has a large number of personalized ones hung on walls in his home. It's not clear whether he already had one from McDavid for his collection, but if not, he does now.
