When the Seattle Kraken selected Mark Giordano in the expansion draft and months later named him team captain, the hope was that they would start similar to the Vegas Golden Knights and be a contender right off the hop.

That hasn't happened for them, as they have just 15 wins through 46 games and sit 29th in league standings. As a result, they will likely look to move certain players ahead of the trade deadline, and from the sounds of things, one of those players could be Giordano.

«At some point, we will have a conversation and see what he wants to do,» general manager Ron Francis told The Athletic. «I think every situation is different. Mark's been in this league for a long time. He's our captain, and the conversation will be had face to face with him. We will see where he is at and what he wants to do.»

It hasn't been a great season for Giordano, who has just 18 points through 40 games. In his defence, you'd be hard pressed to find a single player on the Kraken outside of Jared McCann who would be happy with their season thus far. Perhaps joining a contender will get Giordano back to the level he was at for many years with the Calgary Flames.
