Late last week, newly minted Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes told reporters that while he was not opposed to moving Jeff Petry, the defenceman hadn't asked for a trade. One reporter says that's not the case.

Francois Gagnon recently did a spot on RDS where he stated clearly that Petry had indeed asked to be traded out of Montreal. He did not say whether that request was made to Hughes, or previous GM Marc Bergevin. Gagnon added that Canadiens fans should likely expect Petry's value to be low compared to what it was last season.

"Fans shouldn't expect to get an extra first-round draft pick and get the moon for a guy who wants to leave," said Gagnon.

Petry's wife Julie recently took to her Instagram account to say she and the couple's three children would be staying in Michigan until this season ends to be closer to family and get away from COVID restrictions in Quebec. Petry has never stated publicly that he wants or trade or why, but it's likely a safe bet the native of Michigan feels the same way as his wife.

Petry, 34, is currently on pace for his worst season in the NHL since his rookie year, which puts a bit of a damper on his trade value. He has three season left on his contract after this one at an annual cap hit of $6.25 million.
