According to Marc Antoine Godin of The Athletic, Montreal Canadiens excutive Vice President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton met with prospect Jordan Harris two weeks ago to see where he was at.

Another interesting thing to note is that newly-hired General Manager Kent Hughes' two son's play with Harris in the NCAA and Hughes coached Harris for a few years in the Boston Eagles Jr. program, Marc Antoine Godin also mentioned.

"One thing to keep an eye on w/ Kent Hughes' arrival as GM is the future of Jordan Harris with the MTL org. Hughes once coached Harris for a few years with the Boston Jr. Eagles program, so there is familiarity. Jeff Gorton met with Harris 2 weeks ago. Sounds like it was positive," Godin said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Harris, 21, is currently playing for Northeastern University in Boston and was taken by the Canadiens in the third round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

According to CapFriendly, the Canadiens hold Harris' signing rights until August 15th 2022, and if he doesn't sign by then, he'll become an unrestricted free agent.

Harris would be a big piece of Montreal's defensive core if they can find a way to lock him up before the August 15th deadline. It's possible that by this time next year, Montreal's defensive group could be very young, and feature Alexander Romanov, Kaiden Guhle, Mattias Norlinder and Jordan Harris.
