This is certainly something that doesn't happen often. With NHLers out of the Olympics taking place in Beijing in February, countries are attempting to put together teams of veterans and top prospects to add to their teams. One 18-year-old has already told his country that he won't be going, despite getting an invite.

Defenceman Simon Edvinsson was selected sixth overall in the 2021 draft by the Detroit Red Wings. He's already six-foot-four and 203 lbs, so he would certainly make a great addition to Team Sweden. However, he tells SVT Sports he's already said no.

"For me, SHL gold and Frölunda is the priority right now," said Edvinsson.

He also cited China's tough quarantine rules and the possibility of the World Juniors being continued to summer for not wanting to go.

"That's a bit of a reason too. Will be too much flailing if I also play at the Olympics."

Edvinsson's coach with Frolunda, Roger Rönnberg, recently said he would do everything in his power to stop his players from going to the Olympics, but Edvinsson insisted his decision has nothing to do with that.

"Everyone has to make their own decisions," Edvinsson said.

"I understand if other players such as my friend Christian Folin want to go. It may be his last chance. Everyone makes their own decisions and people respect that.
