The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced on Friday that they are delaying their return to play from Monday, January 17th to Tuesday, February 1st due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

In a statement, the league said, "With no clear timeline of COVID-19 restrictions being eased, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the postponement of its return to play plans.

Initially scheduled for a return in the week of January 17, the regular season will now resume on February 1. The league is still working on rescheduling all postponed games, with the primary objective of having all franchises play their full 68-game schedule."

The last games played in the QMJHL were on December 18th which prior to their holiday break. COVID-19 restrictions would have caused games to be played behind closed-doors, which is tough for a junior hockey league that makes the majority of its revenue based on ticket sales and food/drink/merchandise sales.
