The New Jersey Devils announced on Tuesday that defenceman Dougie Hamilton will undergo surgery to fix a broken jaw on Wednesday and has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to January 2nd.

During Sunday's game against the Washington Capitals, Hamilton took a puck to the face and required stitches. As a precaution, he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Hamilton, 28, signed a massive-seven year contract worth $63 million with the Devils on the opening day of free agency. In thirty games this season, the Toronto Ontario native has twenty points (seven goals, thirteen assists), twenty-two penalty minutes and is a minus-nine.

In other Devils injury news, goaltender Jonathan Bernier underwent successful right hip surgery on Monday and will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season. In ten appearances this season, Bernier went 4-4-1 with a 3.06 G.A.A. and a .902 save percentage.
