This is the kind of thing that makes people hate the coach's challenge. In this third period of Friday's game between the New jersey Devils and Edmonton Oilers, Kailer Yamamoto scored in the third period to give Edmonton a 5-4 lead.

However, the Devils attempted to challenge the goal, saying NJ defenceman Dougie Hamilton played the puck on a delayed penalty prior to Yamamoto's goal, and the play should have been stopped before the puck went into the net. Officials conferred for 10 minutes before announcing the goal was not reviewable and, therefore, would stand.

Following the game, and many, MANY complaints on social media, the league released a statement. Here it is in full:

So, essentially, it took 10 minutes for the officials to figure out there was nothing in the rule book that made this goal reviewable. There has to be a better way to do this. Or, at least, one that wouldn't take so long.
