The Columbus River Dragons of the Federal Prospects Hockey League announced that they have signed former NHL defenceman Ian White. For those who aren't familiar with the FPHL, it sits one level below the ECHL.

White, 37, hasn't played hockey since the 2014-15 season when he played in the American Hockey League, while his last appearance in the NHL came during the 2012-13 season as a member of the Detroit Red Wings.

In his absence from hockey, White has had some legal problems. In late-2016, he was granted a three-month conditional sentence and placed on 12 months supervised probation after pleading guilty to three firearm offences.

The Steinbach, Manitoba native played 503 games over parts of eight seasons in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings. In those 503 games, White had 179 points (45 G, 134 A) and 254 penalty minutes.
