The National Hockey League is in a bit of turmoil at the moment as it attempts to deal with game postponements due to COVID-19 outbreaks among teams. On Tuesday, nine games were cancelled in Canada due to the fact that certain arenas are not allowed to have fans at this point and too much revenue would be lost. In the meantime, outspoken player agent Allan Walsh believes the league is flying blind on this issue.

"Feels like the NHL is frantically sticking gum in each hole of a sinking canoe to keep it afloat," said Walsh. "It's obvious there's no plan, just knee jerk reactions to the latest news. This cost players the Olympics while Gary is grinning like a Cheshire Cat over that one."

Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins seems to share Walsh's sentiments when it comes to the Olympics. He recently said the NHL had simply been looking for a reason to cancel player involvement, and having to reschedule so many games was a perfect excuse to do so. He firmly believes players should get to decide on their own.

One of the biggest issues facing the NHL right when it comes to COVID is the continued testing of asymptomatic players. It appears leagues like the NBA and NFL aren't doing this and it allows them to keep their schedules in tact. That said, the NHL is involved in much more crossborder travel than either league (none at all for the NFL, of course) and that may be a major reason for the continued testing of players without symptoms. There has been some suggestions of playing games in the US only, but Canadian teams will never agree to that due to the lost revenue involved with not playing at home.
