After the firing of general manager (GM) Marc Bergevin just a few short weeks ago, the Montreal Canadiens have begun their search to fill that current vacancy.

While several names have popped up such as Patrick Roy, Daniel Brière, and many others. On Monday, it was reported from Arpon Basu and Marc-Antoine Godin of The Athletic that there are also three women in the running for the vacant GM role. It has not yet been announced when a decision on the matter will be made, but the committee selecting it will be owner Geoff Molson, executive vice president of hockey operations Jeff Gorton, minority owner Michael Andlauer, and former Habs GM Bob Gainey.

The firing of Bergevin wasn't overly surprising given the teams struggles to start the 2021-22 season, but marks a big change as he had been in the GM role since 2012. If one of the three women under consideration were to get the job, it would mark the first female in NHL history to hold a GM position.
