EA Sports gains IIHF licencing rights; three major tournaments being added to NHL 22

EA Sports announced on Thursday morning that they've acquried the licencing rights to the IIHF and are now allowed to use national team logos, jerseys, and events in the game.

Beginning today, December 9th, users can play the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships and on January 1st, EA Sports will be added the Women's and Men's World Hockey Championships to the game. It will also include limited time content available in Hockey Ultimate Team.

"Announcing the EA SPORTS™ NHL 22 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Partnership and limited-time IIHF in-game content drop! Hockey is a global experience that extends beyond North America, and players can now play their favourite sport with an even bigger pool of teams that from all over the world." EA Sports said in a statement.

They added, "Starting December 9, 2021, IIHF Men's and World Juniors teams will be added to NHL 22 in a variety of ways. Federations, logos, and uniforms will be available in Ultimate Team and World of Chel, and Play Now rosters will be updated to the latest official teams as they are announced."

EA Sports NHL has been using generic jerseys for their International Teams with the exception of Canada (since NHL 18), and Germany a few years ago, although their licence expired. NHL 05 and NHL 17 had the World Cup of Hockey mode which included full licencing rights for the tournament including jerseys, and logos.
