After having his contract terminated by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday afternoon, forward Kirill Semyonov is returning to the KHL, signing with his former club, Avangard Omsk.

"Forward Kirill Semenov, who started the season at Toronto, has returned to Avangard. The contract will be until the end of the season, according to the press service of the Omsk club." Sport24.ru said.

The 27-year-old only appeared in three games this season with the Maple Leafs, recording no points. He spent the majority of his brief stint in North American with Toronto's AHL affiliate, the Marlies, where he had nine points in nine games.

"Kirill tried his hand overseas, it was his dream - and we let him go after it, but constantly stayed in touch. At some point, we discussed everything and realized that, given the upcoming Olympics and the current state of affairs, it would be better for him to return to our family. Kirill needs no additional introduction, he holds the record for the number of matches played in a row for Avangard, and has long been loved by our fans for his talent and hard work. Semyonov will strengthen our center position, the contract is until the end of the season, after which we will discuss further steps in our cooperation," said Avangard Omsk General Manager, Alexey Volkov.
