The New York Islanders are currently battling quite the outbreak of COVID-19 within the team. It is so bad that the team asked the NHL for Wednesday night's game versus the New York Rangers to be postponed.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Islanders had requested their upcoming games including Wednesday night's matchup to be postponed in order for the team to recover from the outbreak. The Islanders weren't the only team concerned about it, as upcoming opponents are also a bit weary of playing against the team.

After Zdeno Chara was added to the Islanders' COVID protocol list, their number was up to seven players. Josh Bailey, Andy Greene, Kieffer Bellows, Anders Lee, Adam Pelech, Ross Colton, and Zdeno Chara. This is a huge chunk of the team, but other teams in the NHL have dealt with similar problems this year including the San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators.

The NHL ended up denying the request for Wednesday's game to be postponed, but the upcoming games could still be in question.
