It's another edition of things you don't see often in professional hockey. Goaltender Marcel Melichercik, who plays for Spisska Nova Ves HK of the Slovak Extraliga, received a five minute major and was tossed from the game Tuesday after a massive hit on 19-year-old forward Samuel Krajc of Trencin Dukla. Why Melichercik, who is 34, was so upset isn't exactly clear, but the hit was anything but an accident. Melichercik came out of his net to seemingly play the puck when it was shot into his zone. Apparently, a new rule in the Slovak Extraliga states a goalie cannot play the puck in that area. Instead, Melichercik decided to lay Krajc out with a hit that was pretty much a stiff clothesline. Krajc would go crashing into the boards and was clearly hurt on the play. Melichercik then threw his stick in frustration at his net while Krajc's teammates were attempting to see if he was ok. There are two videos of the incident below. The first just shows the hit. The second shows all of the aftermath. No word at this time on a suspension for Melichercik, but you have to think one is coming.
