The NHL's waiver wire had a couple noticeable names pop up on Wednesday afternoon. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, forwards Nate Bastian (SEA) and Patrick Harper (NSH) were placed on waivers. Harper was placed on unconditional waivers for a contract termination.
Bastian, 23, was selected by the Seattle Kraken from the New Jersey Devils this offseason. He has only posted 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 12 games with the NHL's newest team after having 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in 41 games with the Devils last season.
Harper, who is also 23, was selected by the Predators in the 5th round (138th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft. He has yet to play an NHL game and struggled in nine games in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals, tallying no points with a -2 rating. Harper did have a great college career with Boston University, scoring 41 goals and dishing out 74 assists for 115 points in 128 games. He is a small guy at just 5'7» and 150 pounds, so his size is likely a factor in his inability to carve out an NHL career.
