Nearly two years ago, Philadelphia Flyers forward Oskar Lindblom received life altering news when he was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, which is a tumor that grows in the bones or in the tissue around the bones.

Thankfully, he went through successful chemotherapy and is back with the Flyers. Now, he is taking it amongst himself to help others going through difficult times similar to what he did, as he says he feels a form of responsibility to do so. One of the ways he does this is by trying to reach out to as many individuals dealing with cancer personally or with someone in their family.

«I'm trying to reach out to as many as possible,» Lindblom said. «Me and (Flyers senior director of communications) Zach Hill will try to do pictures sometimes, or a video to guys reaching out. It's tough to do them all, but as long as I can do it for some guys and help them, otherwise I'm just trying to go through my own social platforms and bring some good energy for people.»

One family in particular is the Lomazoff family. Matthew Lomazoff passed away at the age of 30 on July 3 of 2020, eight years after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Prior to his passing, both Matthew and his brother Greg were Flyers fans, and Gregg made sure to wear his Lindblom jersey to games in honor of his brother. After Matthew's passing, Gregg decided to send the jersey to the Flyers forward in hopes it would get signed. Lindblom obliged, while adding, «I fight for Matthew Lomazoff.»

Unfortunately, Lindblom was not able to personally deliver the jersey to the Lomazoff family due to the NHL's COVID protocol rules, but the act itself was more than enough. Gregg said the jersey is framed and hanging in the home of his parents, Howard and Lynn.

«That meant everything to my parents,» Gregg said. «They were bawling their eyes out. To take the time to do something like that, it meant a lot to my family. It meant an absolute lot to my family. You see somebody on his stage and they care about your son, it touches them and it means a lot.»

While this is a very saddening scenario for the Lomazoff family, it is heartwarming to hear just how much Lindblom's gesture meant to them. The Flyers forward is an inspiration to many to stay strong and continue fighting. Props to him for doing his best to give his support to any and all families that are dealing with cancer.
