Hockey, much like every other sport, can be quite competitive. You see the fierce competition on a nightly basis, especially during a heated rivalry, like the Battle of Alberta, or the an original six matchup like Habs vs Bruins.

While it can be rough, and at some points, a violent affair, the competition can also be fun. Such was the case during a November 7th matchup between the St. Louis Blues and the Anaheim Ducks.

Anaheim Ducks rookie Trevor Zegras revealed on a recent segment of the Cam and Strick Podcast that he extended a $100 wager to Blues forward Ryan O'Reilly that he would win the opening draw - which he did.

According to Zegras, O'Reilly didn't respond to the bet request and just stared him down at the time. However, O'Reilly did make good on the bet, despite not actually having agreed to it, and paid up, Zegras confirmed.

I think we all know that the game can get pretty chirpy at times which is definitely a part of the mental game. It's actually pretty fun though that O'Reilly was such a good sport about the rookie's bet.

As a young player, Zegras has probably looked up to a guy like Ryan O'Reilly, who has been a star player in the league for years, and who also happens to be a Stanley Cup champion. It must have been a pretty cool moment when he was able to collect his winnings from a good veteran guy who is now one of Zegras' peers.
