A sad story out of Sweden after 35-year-old professional hockey player Oscar Sundh announced he has to retire following a nasty hit during a game almost a year ago.

"Almost a year has passed since I had my concussion and since I still can't cope with normal everyday life, I decided to end my hockey career," said Sundh, who went on to thank numerous people for the opportunities he's had throughout the years.

Sundh was playing for HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) a little over a year ago when he took this open ice hit from Örebro's Emil Larsson. Sundh was clearly knocked out on the play. Larsson received a five minute major, but there was no supplemental discipline.

Sundh did spend one season in North America, playing for the St. John's Fog Devils of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2005-06. However, he was never drafted into the NHL and spent his entire professional career in Sweden. For the last seven years, he's been in the SHL, the highest level of professional hockey in Sweden.
