Despite going unsigned as a free agent this summer, longtime NHLer Eric Staal isn't ready to call it a career just yet.

According to a piece written by Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, the 37-year-old is still skating every day at his home in Minnesota with the intentions of continuing his playing career. LeBrun mentioned that Staal's agent, Rick Curran, is currently in touch with 3-4 teams about a potential contract, and that those teams are expected to make a decision on whether or not to bring in the veteran around American Thanksgiving.

Despite his age, it seems pretty surprising that Staal wasn't able to find a home this summer. Though he struggled in 2021-22 with both the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens, he is just one season removed from a 19 goal, 47 point outing in just 66 games with the Minnesota Wild. He also put up eight points in 21 playoff games with the Habs last year, which is some pretty solid secondary scoring. One hopes he can get one last shot, as it would be a shame to see the 1293 career game vet go out like this.
