The Chicago Blackhawks will delay their search for a permanent head coach a interim GM Kyle Davidson confirms on Sunday, which means that interim head coach Derek King will remain in the position for the duration of this season.

King took over for former head coach Jeremy Colliton, who was relieved of his duties as head coach on Saturday, following an abysmal 1-9-2 start.

The Blackhawks have had a disastrous year, first with the 2010 sexual abuse scandal and series of terminations and resignations relating to it, and then a very forgettable first 12 games, putting the team at a huge disadvantage going forward and likely hampering their ability to qualify for the postseason.

King, a former 14-year NHL veteran, played the majority of his pro career with the New York Islanders, but also spent time with the Hartford Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues.

The 54-year-old spent the last 3 seasons as the head coach of the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, where he also started this season before getting the call to serve as the big club's interim head coach.
