The NHL may end up getting hit where it really hurts over its handling of the Chicago Blackhawks sexual assault scandal, in the pocketbook. One report states several sponsors have informed the league they are not happy with the way things have gone down.

"Spoke today to sports marketing exec who told me multiple sponsors have 'put the NHL on notice' to improve response to Blackhawks abuse scandal," said TSN's Rick Westhead. "NHL brand significantly tarnished over past week, exec says, adding some sponsors unhappy with league's crisis management."

The sponsors seem to be particularly unhappy with a news conference by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly.

"Exec said concerns over NHL response began with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Bill Daly leaning back in chairs, not wearing suit jackets during Monday press conference," continued Westhead.

According to the executive, "They seemed to have no clue about respecting the gravity of the situation."

Much has been said about how the league and the CHicago Blackhawks have handled allegations made by Kyle Beach reaching all the way back to 2010. The NHL has stated it first learned of Beach's lawsuit back in May of 2020, but was assured by the Blackhawks that it "had no merit." This is something the team has already stated it was wrong about, adding it should have been handled in a different way.
