The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Thursday that they've signed defenceman Zach Whitecloud to a six-year contract extension worth $16.5 million ($2.75 million AAV).

His new contract will kick in ahead of the 2022-23 NHL season. Whitecloud is currently in the final year of a two-year contract he signed in March of 2020 and is making $725,000.

The Brandon, Manitoba native was signed as an undrafted free agent out of college in March 2018. In 72 regular season games with the Golden Knights, he has 14 points (2 G, 12 A), 30 penalty minutes, and is a +15. In 39 career playoff games, Whitecloud has put up 7 points (3 G, 4 A) along with 22 penalty minutes.

Whitecloud and the Golden Knights will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Anaheim Ducks.
